COLD PRESSED AVOCADO OIL RECIPE
STEP-BY-STEP COLD PRESSED AVOCADO OIL RECIPE:
Ingredients:
Avocados (8 or more)
Instructions:
-
Wash avocados thoroughly.
-
Gather supplies needed:
-
Washed avocados
-
Knife
-
Cutting Board
-
Big bowl for avocado discard
-
Grapefruit spoon (but any spoon this size will be fine too, I like the serrated edges of the grapefruit spoon)
-
Dish or hand towels (one for avocados, one because this can get messy)
-
Ninja blender (food processor will work too, I have used that before, although I much prefer this blender as it has multiple blades, allowing it to essentially function as a food processor and a blender and you can fit a lot more avocados in it, making the process more efficient.
-
Dinner plates
-
The following are the supplies you will need at the end of the process:
-
Glass jar
-
Bowl
-
Cut avocados in half and remove any blemishes, stems, and seeds.
-
Use a spoon to scoop avocado flesh into the blender making sure to avoid any skin.
-
Blend thoroughly in the blender. I like to start on low and then switch to high.
-
Use the spatula to spread a thin layer (no more than an inch thick) onto the plates.
-
Keep the plates in a well ventilated area that will not get disturbed.
-
Mix the avocado pulp twice daily. You will start to see the avocado oil brown, this is normal and necessary. Once the avocado looks firm, crunchy, and oily, you are ready to press the avocado oil. This usually takes 3-5 days.
-
Once it is ready, take your items needed that we discuss (cheese cloth, strainer, glass jar, bowl, scraper). Place dried avocado into the cheese cloth. Use scraper if necessary to remove any pulp that has adhered to the plate.
-
Squeeze the cheese cloth with avocado inside into a bowl until oil stops coming out.
-
After all the avocados have been hand pressed with the cheese cloth, you can take the avocado oil in the bowl and strain it using a metal strainer into your jar.
-
Store in the fridge or in a dark colored glass jar in your pantry away from sunlight.
